In Cala D'OR you find Cala Gran beach also known as Caló Gran or El Caló is situated at 15 kilometres from Porto Colom. The name comes from the fact that it is the biggest of all the coves that belong to Cala d'Or. Here was the disembarkation of the Moor troops in the 14th century who conquered Santanyí.
This beach is very narrow, with steep cliffs, white fine-grained sand, a wonderful pinewood, the calmness of its water and the beautiful anchoring places. The best area for anchoring boats is at an entrance on starboard side, before the cove begins to narrow, on a sandy ground with seaweed, with a depth that ranges from five to ten metres.
The Caló Gran is the most sheltered from the wind that blows from the east, although the entrance is open to these sea currents.
The nearest port facilities are located at Port Esportiu Marina Cala d'Or, at 0,3 nautical miles.
This natural environment is surrounded by some houses that are well integrated into the landscape, with some big hotels located at the rear, on the right side, and this is why Cala Gran is the most developed beach of this area.
This double exploitation explains that the beach is very crowded by local visitors and tourists who concentrate at the coast, whereas at the rear a playing area for children can be found. The accessibility by car is easy and the beach can also be reached by bus, the nearest stop is at about a hundred metres from the beach.
