Interesting? Read on!

Ciutadella or Ciutadella de Menorca (its official name) is the largest city in the west of the island, the largest and most populated, even above the island’s capital, Mahon. Walking through its streets you can see at a glance that it is city that has been influenced historically by many diverse civilizations: Romans, Arabs, Mozarab, Phoenicians... In fact, one of its main cultural heritage attractions are the remains of constructions known as Talayotic culture. The most representative Talayotic figure in Minorca, the Naveta des Tudons, lies precisely in the municipality of Ciutadella, on the road connecting Ciutadella and Mahon.

The growth of this charming seaside town has been spectacular in the last decades, from 12,240 people in 1960 to about 30,000 inhabitants accounted in the last city census of 2014. Despite this population increase, Ciutadella has maintained its traditional quiet and authentic atmosphere, where locals set the tone for the day.

In the historical centre, you must take a stroll through Ses Voltes, where you will find shops, boutiques and lively taverns where to eat some tapas while you are exploring the area. The gastronomy of this city is impressive and there are restaurants where you can taste fresh fish or a good caldereta (lobster stew). La area of Plaça Nova and the Cathedral of Ciutadella, the Plaça des Born or the many streets with interesting names certainly be an adventure.

As well as the centre of Ciutadella (a beautiful old town with beautiful arcades and cobbled streets with Mediterranean-style white houses) it is well worth visiting the different neighbourhoods that make up the city that include Son Morell, La Vall, San Juan, the area of Barranch, Almudaina, Cala Santandria (which is where our apartment hotel in Minorca is located), Torre Saura...
