Mahon, Menorca's natural harbour
Mahon, along with Ciutadella, are the largest populated areas in Minorca. It is a city full of charm, the administrative capital of the island and a natural harbour of the Mediterranean, blessed with some of the most exquisite riches of the sea. Perfect examples are lobster and the famous red shrimp, which is caught almost exclusively in the canal between Majorca and Minorca.
Although it is a capital, Mahon retains the charm of a small town or village. Easy to walk around enjoying those narrow streets overlooking the sea, the city is welcoming and its people always have a smile on their face. Among its artistic heritage, the Church of El Carmen stands out where the festivities in honour of the seamen Patron Saint are celebrated.
Nature is Minorca’s strong point and has been declared a Biosphere Reserve, and Mahon was not going to be different. Apart from having infinite small islands, it has unique spaces where to walk and hike or simply observe the beauty of the sea.
The Albufera de Es Grau is one of the best examples, as well as showing its Mediterranean nature in full bloom offers visitors a quiet beach to lie down and enjoy the sun.
Sa Mesquida, Es Murta, Cala Llonga, Cala Rata... The municipality of Mahon has dozens of places where to get lost and disconnect from daily routine.
