La Victoria: routes, viewpoints and the Chapel
One of the most beautiful areas of Mallorca where you can discover an authentic village that has grown by the sea. La Victoria, which is located very close to our hotel Prinsotel Mal Pas: a natural area that has a residential area at the foot of the hills. At the top of the hill you find a chapel and the wonderful viewpoint from where there are unique views over the whole bay of Pollença.
La Victoria is the essence of northern Mallorca. Its tranquillity and natural charm mean the locals keep it practically for themselves, protected from the mass tourism that is concentrated in nearby areas such as Puerto de Alcudia or Playa de Muro. The coves in La Victoria are usually small, hidden and comprised of stones, as if excavated by the water. Access is generally complicated and only suitable for adventurous travellers who like to go off the beaten path.
Some of these coves have caves that can only be accessed by swimming, kayaking or snorkelling. In fact, one of the most interesting routes for kayaking or canoeing in this area is precisely that of the caves on the coast of La Victoria. There are companies and nautical schools that offer a guide with routes, of about 3 hours, that will allow you to discover this area from the water in your own kayak.
On foot, the hiking route goes up to the Chapel and lookout point is one of the most famous and simple to attempt during a holiday at the beginning of summer. The heat is still forgiving and you can walk there and back in just a couple of hours. It is not a complicated with few inclines, so even if one is not in excellent shape it is still possible. In total, it is 7 km from the Porta de Xara, in the village of Alcudia. You pass through the Mal Pas and the mythical Cocodrilo Marina.
From there you go to Camí Vell de La Victòria (the old road that led to that area), on which you must walk about 3.5 km in the direction of Cabo Pinar and you will soon find the Chapel.
This Chapel dates from 1679, has a large nave and three chapels. There the Virgin of La Victoria is worshipped and it is one of the essential places to visit in the north of Mallorca.
