Typical Easter pies and pastries in Majorca

If you have decided to spend your Easter holidays with us at the Prinsotel La Dorada, in the north of Majorca, we advise you not to miss any of the delicious pies and pastries which form part of the typical dishes of the gastronomy of the island at this time of the year, such as cocarrois, panades, and robiols. Savoury and sweet combined with the best from the kitchen gardens of Majorca, products from the sea and home made deserts.

Cocarrois are one of the great classics. They are small pies, sweet and savoury. The savoury ones have a mix of spinach, chard, sultanas, and pine nuts, together with fried onions and various spices including paprika as the key ingredient. The flour is very fine and the traditional lard used for the pastry is from Majorcan pigs. They are shaped into half moon shapes.

The rubiols are also like pies in a half moon shapes but they are distinguished because they are flatter and the pastry contains more flour. The sweet ones are filled with marmalade or "angel's hair" (quince) and can be found in most of the traditional bakeries on the island.

The panades at this time of the year are made with fish because according to tradition, meat is not permitted during lent. They are round pies filled with peas, onion and the pastry is thicker. They are seasoned with black pepper and sometimes have a small piece of sobrasada (pork and paprika sausage) inside.

salads, rice and pasta dishes, and fish. Without moving from the Playa de Muro you will have available all the island's excellent gastronomy.
