The magic of Ciutadella

18.07.2014

Ciutadella is the largest city in Minorca regarding population, and although the administrative capital of the island is Mahon, this seaside town is the main symbol of the true essence of Minorca. Tradition, history and culture fill the streets with magic and offer an unforgettable tour of the history of this small Mediterranean island.

From its characteristic street arrangement, notably highlights the streets of Ses Voltes, Que no Passa, La Plaza Nova square or Plaza del Born, very close to the Townhall of Ciutadella and the natural harbour that makes this town one of the oldest fishing port on this island of the Mediterranean.

Perfectly connected to the other towns of Minorca, Ciutadella it is situated on the west coast of the island, and is one of the main interest points. Visiting it is essential to understand what Minorca and its people are really like. Excellent gastronomy, where you can find some of the best restaurants in Minorca, but is also an important cultural centre, with numerous museums and art centres.

But, one of the main attractions in Ciutadella, as well as its friendly atmosphere both day and night, is its rooted “Talayotic” culture. A must visit is the Naveta des Tudons, a talayotic funerary monument considered a unique piece in the world, that can be found on the road between Ciutadella and Mahon.

If you are looking to stay close to Ciutadella, you will find our hotel with apartments in Cala Santandria, one of the most beautiful coves of the coast, and with a family atmosphere, ideal for those travelling with children and look for a quiet holiday in Minorca.
